PLAYBILL ARTICLE: Lyric Stage to Premiere Restored Orchestrations for THE KING AND I
Robert Russell Bennett’s original orchestrations to the 1951 Rodgers and Hammerstein musical THE KING AND I will be heard anew when the Lyric Stage of Irving Texas presents that classic musical in June. Lyric Stage will be the first company to premiere Bennett’s newly restored 1951 orchestrations, which the Rodgers and Hammerstein Organization has been working to assemble for the past four years. Lyric Stage has also received a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts to employ a 35-piece orchestra to perform Bennett’s orchestrations as originally written. Read the full article here>>

LBJ SINGS! ‘THE WINNER’ TO PREMIERE NEXT YEAR
Lyric Stage will produce the 2007 world premiere of THE WINNER about a real election in the early political career of Lyndon B. Johnson. Read article here.


NATIONAL ENDOWMENT FOR THE ARTS
AWARDS $8,000 TO LYRIC STAGE 

Lyric Stage has just received notification of its first grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. The NEA has awarded Lyric Stage $8,000 for its production of CABIN IN THE SKY in the fall of 2006. CABIN IN THE SKY, with music by Vernon Duke, lyrics by John Latouche and book by Lynn Root, opened at Broadway’s Martin Beck Theatre on October 25, 1940 and ran for 156 performances. Ethel Waters introduced the hit song “Taking a Chance on Love” in this musical fable as Petunia, her greatest musical role. Lyric Stage’s production will be the first in Texas of this very rarely produced gem.


HONORS FOR LYRIC STAGE PRODUCTIONS

 RAGTIME WINS BEST MUSICAL
Lyric Stage’s production of RAGTIME won the 2005 Dallas Theatre League Leon Rabin Award for Outstanding Production of a Musical. This brings Lyric Stage’s total Leon Rabin Award count to 35, more than any other theater company.

 THE DALLAS MORNING NEWS NAMES
110 IN THE SHADE AS ONE OF YEAR’S BEST
As it has been since 1997, Lyric Stage was again represented in the year end “best of” list by The Dallas Morning News. For 2005, 110 IN THE SHADE was recognized by Morning News chief critic Lawson Taitte as one of the top ten theatrical events in North Texas for the year.

 DALLAS FORT WORTH THEATRE CRITICS FORUM HONORS LYRIC STAGE PRODUCTIONS
Lyric Stage picked up three citations for excellence from the Dallas Fort Worth Theatre Critics Forum. THE LIVING END was named Best New Play or Musical, the cast of RAGTIME was named Best Ensemble and Gary Floyd was named Best Actor for KING DAVID.
