Inspired by Miguel de Cervantes’ seventeenth-century masterpiece Don Quixote, MAN OF LA MANCHA won Tony Awards for Best Musical and Best Composer and Lyricist, and is one of the most successful musicals in Broadway history.

Powerful, brutal, hilarious, and heartbreaking, MAN OF LA MANCHA celebrates the perseverance of a dying old man who refuses to relinquish his ideals or his passion. The celebrated score includes “The Impossible Dream,” “I, Don Quixote,” and “Dulcinea.”

Christopher Sanders as Miguel de Cervantes

Christopher Sanders starred as Miguel de Cervantes, the failed actor, playwright, and would-be knight who transforms himself into the character Don Quixote de La Mancha as he awaits his trial with the Spanish Inquisition in a Seville dungeon. Lyric Stage audiences will remember Mr. Sanders and his striking baritone from his memorable performances as Emile de Becque in Lyric Stage’s 2015 production of South Pacific,and as Frollo in Lyric Stage’s 2017 production of Disney’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

Colin Phillips as Sancho Panza

Colin Phillips returned to Lyric Stage as Sancho Panza, the devoted manservant of Miguel de Cervantes and bumbling “squire” of Don Quixote. Lyric Stage audiences also saw Colin in his comedic turn as Lt. Brannigan in Lyric Stage’s 2018 hit production of Guys & Dolls, but Colin’s work with Lyric Stage also includes Disney’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame and The New Moon in Concert.

Danielle Estes as Aldonza

Danielle Estes returned to Lyric Stage as the strong and fiery Aldonza, having last been seen in Lyric Stage’s 2015 production of Into the Woods. Audiences will also remember Danielle from her notable performances as Helen in Lyric Stage’s 2014 production of The Golden Apple (recorded by PS CLASSICS) and as Carla in Lyric Stage’s 2013 production of Nine.

Also featured in the cast

The cast also featured Lyric Stage favorites Mark Oristano (Captain of the Inquisition), James Williams (Governor/Inn Keeper), and Deborah Brown (Inn Keeper’s Wife), whose combined Lyric Stage credits total over 60 productions.

Principal casting also included John Tillman (Dr. Sanson Carrasco/The Duke/Knight of the Mirrors), Ashlee Waldbauer (Antonia), Annabelle Grace Woodard (Fermina), Melinette Pallares (Housekeeper), Jonathan McInnis (Padre), and Chris Quiroz (Barber).

Ryan Caviola, Jacob Clemmons, Greg Gore, Quintin Jones, Jr., Maddie Mateer, Louisa Mauzé, Hannah McEvilly, Austin Mirsoltani, JT Snyder and Cameron Vance rounded out the cast as the Muleteers, Soldiers, Prisoners, Prison Guards, Dancers, Men of the Inquisition, et al.
